The crazy weather of Rio de Janeiro

Rio -as every tropical city- has very hot & sunny days and also very rainy & cloudy days (lightnings included)

The day after my arrival was the hottest day of the summer: 40°C (I’m from Lima, where temperature reaches 23-28° so you can imagine… I was melting as an ice cream)

I’m already 15 days in Rio and I have experienced and “enjoyed” the weather very much :

  • First 4 days, the temperature reached 36-40° (I drank almost 3 litters of water every day)
  • Next 3 days, it rained a lot but the temperature only descended until 30°. There were many lightnings and the TV reported that 2 people died because of them.
  • Next 2 days, it was cloudy and warm (22-25°)
  • On Sunday, temperature raised up again! 36° (good for beach lovers)
  • Last 4 days it was sunny (30°)

but today, while I was returning to my home, it started to rain again… and what a rain! with even stronger thunders and lightnings.

Actually I like rain, it’s a kind of “touristic attraction” for me (since  it almost never rains in Lima and definitely there are no lightnings). However, it’s not so funny when I am in the street  (in a day that a couple of hours ago seemed to be very sunny) and suddenly the sky get full of clouds and starts to rain like in the Great Flood (obviously I don’t have my umbrella there). A couple of days ago, I had to walk for 30 minutes under the rain because I was visiting some apartments and my pants (from knees to down) got completely wet!

I’m not complaining. I don’t mind very much arriving to my apartment with my clothes a little wet… actually this is exotic for me so I like it! haha..

I enjoy more these rainy days from my apartment’s window (at 8th floor), it has an incredible view of the Rio’ sky and I can see the lightnings

Here is a short video where you can see how it rains in Rio and…  lightnins!! recorded from my apartment’s window :)

and also a picture of The Christ being hit by a lightning! (it happened on Feb 2008 – source: dailymail.co.uk)
